Vienna/Frankfurt (OTS) – Art and Culture State Secretary Andrea Mayer congratulates Tonio Schachinger on the German Book Prize 2023.
“There are many coming-of-age stories, and boarding school novels also have a long tradition in Austrian literature, if we think regarding Törleß by Robert Musil or Friedrich Torberg’s student Gerber. With the novel “real-time age” by Tonio Schachinger, the genre has now arrived in the 21st century, with the ambivalent main character Till Kokorda at the center, who hopes to find happiness in online gaming,” said the State Secretary. “Tonio Schachinger already made it to the 2019 with his debut Shortlist for the German Book Prize. The fact that he was able to win this prize with his second book speaks for the great talent and literary power of the young narrator from Austria. I would like to congratulate him very much on this beautiful and prestigious recognition of his work with the German Book Prize. It is an honor for all of Austrian contemporary literature that one of its representatives was able to prevail among the large number of top-class candidates in the German-speaking book world.”
