Through expensive transfers and a rejuvenation of the workforce, Arsenal have built the most expensive collective of the moment.
An unexpected change in the ranking of the most valuable football teams in the world of the Transfermarkt platformhas just taken place: Arsenal now sit in first place, overtaking Manchester City. Despite a seven-year absence from the Champions League, the Gunners have managed to build a squad whose squad value exceeds that of last season’s European champions. This spectacular progress is explained by the record investments made by Arsenal.

Arsenal now overtakes Manchester City in team valuation
Under the management of Mikel Arteta since the end of 2019, Arsenal have strengthened their squad this summer by signing Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice for a total fee of 231.6 million euros. This strategy significantly increased the overall value of the team from €668 million to €1.21 billion. This represents an impressive increase of 528 million euros, the largest ever recorded by a club in this period.
Increased and high spending in the transfer market
Compared to other top clubs, Arsenal stand out with a markedly loss-making transfer record, having spent €685m on player acquisitions and only generating €104m in revenue from player sales. Despite this net loss of 581 million euros since January 2020, Arsenal remain at the top of this world ranking of squad value.
The youth of the workforce also explains the progression
The youth of the squad is also a huge factor in increasing its value, with no key player over the age of 26. This strategy appears to have paid off, allowing Arsenal to rival other Premier League clubs in terms of squad value. Although Manchester City are currently in second place in the table, it is still too early to say whether Arsenal will maintain their top position until the end of the transfer window. The competition promises to be tight, but the Gunners managed to mark a major turning point in their recent history by rising to the top of this prestigious list.
