Arsenal and Liverpool qualified for the fourth round of the League Cup

Arsenal and Liverpool won at home this Wednesday evening, by the same score (5-1), in the third round of the League Cup. The Gunners got the better of Bolton, a League One team (Third Division) during a match marked by a double (37th and 49th) from young Ethan Nwaneri, aged 17, the first goal from Raheem Sterling under his new colors (64th), as well as achievements by Declan Rice (16th) and Kai Havertz (77th).

The Wanderers saved the honor with a clear counter-attack concluded by Aaron Collins (53rd), who took advantage of the naivety of the Gunners’ inexperienced goalkeeper, Jack Porter, who, at 16, this Wednesday became the youngest player to start an official match in the history of the London club.

Doubles of Jota and Gakpo

As for the Reds, the defending champions, they outclassed West Ham, who had opened the scoring with a grotesque own goal from Jarell Quansah (21st). But then, Liverpool was carried by the skill of Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo, who each scored a double (respectively in the 25th and 49th minute, then in the 90th and 90th + 3). In the meantime, Mohamed Salah went for his goal, concluding an action that he himself had initiated (74th), just before Hammers defender Edson Alvarez was excluded (76th).

In the fourth round of the League Cup, which will be played the week of October 28, Liverpool will travel to Brighton while Arsenal will go to Preston North End. The most attractive poster at this level of the competition will be Tottenham – Manchester City.
