Former Pakistani coach Mickey Arthur has been appointed as the head coach of the Sri Lankan team. The former national head coach will come to Pakistan with the Sri Lankan team this month. Test cricket is returning to Pakistan after 10 years and two World Test Championship matches between Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi this month.
The Sri Lankan cricket team will arrive in Pakistan on December 8 to participate in the two-test series. The first Test match of the series will be played from December 11 to 15 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, while the second match will be played from December 19 to 23 at the National Stadium, Karachi. Initially, Sri Lanka was supposed to play a two-Test series in October, but the visiting team changed the limited-overs series against Pakistan scheduled in December to a Test series in order to assess the security situation.
After the successful ODI and T20I series in Pakistan, Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed the schedule of the Test series in December as part of the Future Tour programme. During the series, the overall security situation of the country and the passion of the cricket loving public was seen in the form of excellent security arrangements and stadiums packed with fans.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Director International Cricket Zakir Khan says that this is a great news for national cricket which is proof that like other countries, Pakistan is a safe country for sports. He said that he is grateful to Sri Lanka Cricket for sending the team to Pakistan for the long format series. He said that this series is a result of PCB’s efforts to fully revive international cricket in the country, which will help them attract the younger generation to the game, after finalizing the schedule of the Test series. Preparation of standard arrangements is in progress and in final stages, PCB will leave no stone unturned in making arrangements for cricketers, officials, media and public to make this series memorable.
He said that there will be a tough competition between the two teams in the Test series where the cricket fans will get to watch thrilling matches.
