Minneapolis: The young woman who arrived in the United States with giraffe feces was arrested. CBS News reports that the woman was stopped by customs when she arrived at St. Paul’s International Airport in Minneapolis. The woman’s explanation was that she brought the giraffe’s feces to make a necklace.

The incident took place on September 29. The woman said that while on vacation in Kenya, she got giraffe excrement and wanted to make jewelry out of it. She added that this is not the first time she has used animal excrement to make jewelry. Customs officials destroyed the giraffe’s droppings in accordance with United States Department of Agriculture destruction protocol.

Officials said it is dangerous to bring animal feces into the U.S., and there is a risk of disease and serious health problems if it is brought out without being disclosed to customs and made into jewelry. The agency stated that permission is required to bring such animal remains into the country and Kenya has been affected by African swine fever, classical swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease and swine vesicular disease.

Minnesota Public Radio reports that the woman will not face any further action because the excrement has been turned over to authorities. Attempting to smuggle feces past airport security staff might result in fines ranging from $300 to $1,000.
