A French court has issued an arrest warrant against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on charges of chemical attacks.
The Office of the Public Prosecutor of the Court of Appeal of Paris, the capital of France, announced on Tuesday that it has approached the court to “solve the legal issue” regarding the arrest warrant against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Bashar al-Assad is accused of crimes against humanity in the 2013 chemical attacks in Syria.
The National Coalition for Syrian Opposition Forces praised the decision of the appeals court in Paris and stressed in a statement that “the families of the victims view these efforts positively”.
