Arrest warrant issued for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in France – World

A French court has issued an arrest warrant against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on charges of chemical attacks.

The Office of the Public Prosecutor of the Court of Appeal of Paris, the capital of France, announced on Tuesday that it has approached the court to “solve the legal issue” regarding the arrest warrant against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Bashar al-Assad is accused of crimes against humanity in the 2013 chemical attacks in Syria.

The Investigative Chamber thus rejected a request by the Office of the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor to quash the warrant of arrest on the grounds of personal immunity while the President was in power.
