An arrest warrant was issued once morest him on November 23, following he failed to appear in court in connection with a case in which he is accused of having drugged two people without their knowledge. The alleged acts were allegedly committed in August 2013 and June 2016.

“The court was not reassured by the guarantees that were offered by the defense in order to ensure the presence of the accused in court on the next dates,” commented the prosecutor for criminal and penal prosecutions, Me Laurence -Fanny L’Estage.

During Tuesday’s hearing at the Montreal courthouse, Detective Sergeant Alexandre Renaud testified regarding the details of his arrests, the first of which occurred on November 11, 2022.

According to Detective Sergeant Renaud, investigators tried to contact him through several means, including by telephone, but the individual did not respond. They finally went to his house, and despite several calls and warnings, they had to break down the door with a battering ram. Mr. Munteanu was then “hiding” under a blanket, Mr. Renaud explained on Tuesday.

Since then, investigators had taken several steps to find Mr. Munteanu, the SPVM told Noovo Info. However, he no longer lived at the address where the first arrest took place.

On November 30, it was finally a citizen who contacted 911 to inform them that the person the police were looking for was in an apartment in Laval. Authorities went to the scene and arrested him around 7:15 p.m.

“The individual was collaborative,” the SPVM spokesperson reported to Noovo Info.

Mr Munteanu has remained behind bars ever since. He blamed his lawyers for missing this appearance in court. He notably criticized them for not having informed him of the agenda.

Last Friday, his request for release pending Tuesday’s hearing was finally rejected.

The accused also gave his version of the facts during Tuesday’s hearing.

“The judge considered that the accused made contradictory remarks, that he even fell a little into confabulation at times. In short, his version was contradictory,” Me L’Estage reported to Noovo Info.

Mr. Munteanu will return to court on December 7.

Moreover, the opera singer faced two counts of vehicle theft in the state of Tennessee, in the United States. He had pleaded guilty to a reduced offense of taking a vehicle without permission. Thus, he was in default of warrant in the United States.

The former Star Académie participant was also accused of shoplifting for a story that occurred on January 6, 2018 in a Canadian Tire in Laval. The charges, however, were dropped the following year.
