The arrest warrant for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was dismissed.
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on the 27th, Chief Judge Yoo Chang-hoon of the Seoul Central District Court dismissed the arrest warrant requested by the prosecution for CEO Lee, who is suspected of breach of trust under the Aggravated Punishment Act for Specific Economic Crimes.
Chief Judge Yoo Chang-hoon said, “Considering the degree of need to guarantee the suspect’s right to defense and the degree of concern over destruction of evidence, it is difficult to say that there is a reason and need for detention that would exclude the principle of investigation without detention.”
The substantive warrant review of Representative Lee, which began around 10:10 am on the 26th, ended around 7:25 pm, 9 hours and 20 minutes later.
After completing the examination, Representative Lee left the court and waited at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do for the results of the warrant review. Following the decision to dismiss the arrest warrant, he was immediately released and returned to the hospital where he was receiving recovery treatment.
