An arrest warrant has been applied for the man who attacked Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, with a weapon.
The Busan Police Agency Investigation Headquarters, which is investigating the attack on Representative Lee, announced on the 3rd that it had applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A (66, male) on charges of attempted murder.
Mr. A is suspected of attempting to kill CEO Lee by stabbing him once with a weapon at the Daejeon Observatory on Gadeok Island, Gangseo-gu, Busan, at 10:30 a.m. on the 2nd.
The police, who secured Mr. A’s identity immediately following the crime, applied for an arrest warrant to the Busan District Prosecutors’ Office at 7:35 p.m. that day following an investigation.
After review, the prosecution plans to request an arrest warrant for Mr. A from the court.
On this day, the police conducted a large-scale search and seizure of Mr. A’s home, office, and vehicle in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, and confiscated food items, PCs, and laptops as evidence.
It is reported that the arrest warrant applied to the prosecution includes materials obtained during the search and seizure that day.
The decision on whether Mr. A will be detained is expected to be made the next day.
Meanwhile, the police, who have formed an investigation headquarters with regarding 70 people, are focusing their investigative power on identifying Mr. A’s motive for the crime.
In particular, when suspicions were raised that Mr. A had joined a conservative political party on several occasions but recently joined the Democratic Party, a search and seizure warrant was executed for the relevant political party to confirm this.
It was discovered that the relevant political party informed the police of Mr. A’s party membership in the form of a voluntary submission.
