Arrest Made in Shooting Near US Embassy in Lebanon: Latest Updates and Investigation Details

Days following the shooting incident near the entrance to the US Embassy in the Awkar area on the outskirts of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, the General Directorate of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces, Public Relations Division, announced the arrest of the shooter in a specific operation by the Information Division.

According to what was stated in the statement of the security forces, the so-called M.K. (born in 1997/Lebanese) was arrested in the Al-Kafaat district. He confessed to having opened fire on the embassy. The weapon used in the operation was seized, and the investigation is underway under the supervision of the competent judiciary.

Last Wednesday evening, shooting occurred at the embassy, ​​and embassy spokesman Jake Nelson reported at the time, “The incident occurred at 10:37 p.m. local time without any casualties, and our facility is safe (…) We are in close contact with law enforcement authorities.” in the host country.

After the incident, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati received US Ambassador Dorothy Shea, where he reiterated his condemnation of the attack on the embassy, ​​stressing that the security services are intensifying their investigations to uncover its circumstances and those involved.

After the meeting, Shea expressed in a statement her appreciation for the messages of support issued by political officials in the country, including Mikati, “as well as from various groups, political parties, and other security partners. This support means a lot to us as an American embassy.”

She added, “We are fully aware that the authorities are investigating the incident of an armed man shooting at the embassy, ​​and we appreciate the commitment expressed by our security partners and political officials in this country that they will spare no effort in investigating this incident, prosecuting the perpetrator, and holding him accountable.”

Shea stressed, “We at the American embassy do not feel afraid following this incident. Our security procedures are very strong and our relationship is solid. We continue our work at the embassy as usual.”
