The suspect responsible for a shooting in El Cajon, California on Thursday followingnoon has been apprehended by police. The incident resulted in one fatality and two injuries. Law enforcement officials located the suspect’s U-Haul pickup truck near Balboa Park at Sixth Avenue and Quince Street, and subsequently arrested him in the vicinity, according to Capt. Rob Ransweiler of the El Cajon Police Department (ECPD).
The shooting occurred at a dental office near the intersection of Magnolia and Madison Avenues at approximately 4:15 p.m. Ransweiler confirmed that the deceased victim was a male in his 40s, while the injured victims were a man in his 40s and a woman in her 20s. Both injured individuals are reported to be in stable condition. All three victims sustained gunshot wounds from a handgun.
The father of one of the victims, Jose Antonio, identified his daughter Yareli as a 27-year-old employee of the dental office. Antonio stated that his daughter did not know the shooter.
Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old El Cajon resident Mohammed Abdulkareem and issued a public warning that he was armed and dangerous. Abdulkareem fled the scene in a white U-Haul pickup truck with an Arizona license plate. Video footage of the vehicle was captured by the city’s Flock traffic-camera system, according to Ransweiler.
