An individual was arrested at the Rogier pre-metro station in Brussels on Wednesday following stealing a police inspector’s mobile phone, the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone announced on Thursday. The suspect was released pending further investigation.
A patrol from the Trekkers Brigade, specializing in pickpockets, was on a tram. Inspectors noticed a suspect who appeared to be paying particular attention to users’ personal belongings. “When this suspect wanted to leave the tram, one of the inspectors noticed that his own cell phone had been stolen from his pocket,” police said. “The inspectors then got off the tram and noticed a second suspicious person running away. It was the latter who had stolen the cell phone.”
After a brief pursuit, this second suspect was arrested. He was transferred to the police station for questioning and the stolen cell phone was returned to its owner.
The suspect was released following questioning, pending further investigation.
