Arrest in Paris of a Belgian magistrate wanted by the courts


“A Belgian national, magistrate of the Belgian judicial order, was arrested today in Paris and placed in judicial detention, in execution of two European arrest warrants issued by the Belgian judicial authorities”confirmed the judicial source.

“He will be presented to the Paris public prosecutor’s office on Wednesday” to be notified of the arrest warrants against him before appearing later before the investigating chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal, responsible for extraditions.

According to Europe 1, this magistrate was arrested “in a hotel in the sixth arrondissement of Paris”.

The Belgian authorities “suspect him of fraud (…) committed in his capacity as a magistrate”, “of laundering and extortion of funds” and have already “sentenced him to five years in prison for fraud and breach of trust in 2012, according to the radio.
