An employee of the evidence department of the Charleroi courthouse and his partner were charged and placed under arrest warrant for theft and misappropriation of objects seized by the courts, Vincent Fiasse, the King’s prosecutor of Charleroi confirming information from Sudinfo. The two accused appeared before the Charleroi council chamber and remain in preventive detention.
A man who previously worked at the evidence registry is suspected of having stolen and misappropriated several objects seized by the courts. The investigation initiated several months ago has recently gained momentum. “Certain objects were not found at the registry. The latter then directly notified the public prosecutor’s office. The opening of the investigation did not take place following a complaint from a litigant, but rather through this information. Later, following the opening of several notices, there was indeed a complaint filed by a person. A suspect was able to be identified and a search was carried out.”indicated Vincent Fiasse, King’s Prosecutor of Charleroi.
This legal operation led to the seizure of objects and a Porsche. “Obviously, this Porsche was not stolen from the registry, but it might be the result of the suspect’s criminal activities,” specified the Charleroi public prosecutor’s office. According to the King’s Prosecutor, the damage linked to these thefts and misappropriations would be around 500,000 euros and would mainly only concern jewelry. The main suspect and his partner were arrested and charged with theft and misappropriation of objects.
The preventive detention of the two accused was confirmed by the Charleroi council chamber. The investigation is still ongoing and the review of security measures has been announced, concluded the Charleroi King’s Prosecutor.
