The security authorities registered 51,886 reports of fraud in 2022, so this type of crime contributed ten percent to the overall crime statistics. Around half of the scams took place online. This proportion has since risen, as the Federal Criminal Police Office (BK) now shows on the occasion of the “Week Against Fraud”. In July 2023, around two thirds of all fraudulent activities reported were related to the online sector.
