Army commander: there is no direct war threat to Lithuania in the near future

“According to the available current data, according to all the information that comes from open and non-open, i.e. intelligence, sources, we see clearly, because the facts say that in the near future, in the near future, there is no such direct threat of war to our country”, – on Wednesday in a remote meeting with V. Rupšys said in the opposition Social Democratic faction of the Seimas.

The general also emphasized that this is an assessment of the current situation, and it does not mean that the threat of war will not arise in the future.

“But we emphasize that we always evaluate and look from today’s perspective, and (I say – BNS) that people would be calmer today, but not (they can – BNS) be happy that there can never be a war. A war can take place and there is a possibility, but in the future,” said V. Rupšys.

A few days ago, the Lithuanian army announced on Facebook that there are no prerequisites for an attack on the country, but it is necessary for both the state and each of its citizens to prepare for it.

In the meeting with the Social Democrats, V. Rupšys said that the army published this announcement because they constantly receive questions from the population regarding the threat of war, so it was decided not only to answer them personally, but also to publish it publicly.

“There will be no war today. We see the need to write this, because letters with citizens’ questions are falling into our mailbox one following another, and soldiers have been asking questions from family members and friends for some time, there have already been cases when a uniformed soldier was asked even in a store or gas station “When will there be a war and what what should I do?” – announced the Lithuanian army.

The army reminded that the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022, and the gathering of military equipment was discussed a year ago – in the spring of 2021. In September, equipment was moved to the borders of Ukraine under the guise of exercises, and in November, the entire Western world, seeing clear satellite photos of Russian military equipment concentrated on the border of Ukraine, identified the threat of an attack.

The Lithuanian army announces that it has a complete intelligence picture of what is currently happening at Lithuania’s borders and reassures that the situation has not changed since 2022.
