Army calls on Israelis to prepare for Iranian attack

There is a threat of a “far-reaching” attack, said army spokesman Daniel Hagari in a televised speech on Tuesday. He urged people to stay near shelters.

“Ballistic Missile Attack”

Iran is preparing an imminent missile attack on Israel, the US government said shortly before. There are “indications that Iran is preparing to launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel soon,” a US government official said in Washington on Tuesday. Such a direct attack on Israel would have “serious consequences for Iran,” he warned.

The U.S. is “actively supporting defense preparations to prepare Israel for this attack,” the official said. The Israeli army is currently carrying out massive air strikes against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia in Lebanon and, according to its own statements, launched a “limited” ground operation in the neighboring country on Tuesday night. On Friday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike.

Immediately after the radical Islamic Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 last year, Hezbollah opened a second front against Israel with regular rocket attacks from Lebanon. In April, Iran fired more than 300 rockets and drones at Israel directly from its territory for the first time. Several allies helped Israel repel the attack at the time.
