Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that on the issue of goods under sanctions, his country is trying to be as transparent as possible. Noting that many goods that were previously delivered directly to Russia now go through Armenia as well, Mr. Pashinyan stressed that the sanctions are red lines that Yerevan will not cross.
“For example, drinks that are not subject to sanctions are not a problem,” the prime minister said in an interview with a Czech publication. Respect (quotation by “Armenpress”).
“But with regard to goods that are under sanctions, we try to be as transparent as possible, we cooperate with the EU, the USA, even with Russia itself. …We are happy to meet Russian demand wherever there is free space. Sanctions are our red lines. And we clearly say this to the Russians: we do not want to offend you, but we ourselves cannot afford to fall under sanctions. There is no secret here,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
In the summer of 2022, the United States announced that at least 18 countries are helping Russia bypass sanctions. Among them, Washington named Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. This year, the United States threatened secondary sanctions for organizing the re-export of banned products to the Russian Federation. In April, Armenia stated that in trade with the Russian Federation, the country is guided only by the rules of the Eurasian Economic Union.
