In Bogotá the fight against crime does not stop! The Bogotá Police, through the Criminal Investigation Section, and in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, managed to capture a man known with the alias ‘El Sin’, who according to the authorities, led a gang dedicated to to impersonate police officers to commit robberies.
This man must respond to the crime of trafficking, manufacturing, carrying or possession of firearms and/or ammunition, as well as theft.
The announcement of this capture was made by the mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, accompanied by Brigadier General José Daniel Gualdrón, commander of the Bogotá Police, and the Secretary of Security, César Restrepo.
Thanks to citizen complaints, the Bogotá Police carried out a series of intelligence and judicial police activities, including the collection of complaints, data analysis, surveillance, monitoring, interviews and study of frames. All of this culminated in a search and seizure operation in the town of Puente Aranda. During the procedure, the uniformed officers captured a 43-year-old man in flagrante delicto and confiscated an important arsenal that included weapons, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles and clothing for the exclusive use of the military and police forces.
“This is an important blow because surely citizens remember well what has happened on some occasions in Bogotá and that criminals use clothing to impersonate police officers, they have perpetrated some serious crimes in the city (…) From the first day we spoke with the Secretary of Security (SDSCJ) and General Gualdrón to dismantle that gang, thanks to the work of the Bogotá Police, the Sijin, the Attorney General’s Office and also particularly the citizen complaint allowed us to reach a site in the town of Puente Aranda,” said Mayor Galán.
During the search and seizure procedure, the uniformed officers found 137 5.56 m cartridges, 45 22 mm caliber cartridges, 33 9 mm caliber cartridges, 17 vehicle license plates, 10 replicas of institutional jackets, 6 ballistic vests with replica Police logos, 6 #4 blue uniforms, 6 5.56 caliber suppliers, 5 9 mm caliber suppliers, 4 smoke, 04 7.65 mm Cartridges, 3 Automobiles, 2 Motorcycles with police identification, 2 Communication radios with monophones and batteries, 1 Yamaha 900 cc Motorcycle, 1 Motorcycle chassis, 1 Police license, 1 Sound suppressor, 2 Jericho Caliber Pistol 9 mm, 1 Sig Sauer pistol and a 01 COLT brand M4 rifle.
