An explosion occurred on Tuesday afternoon outside an apartment block on Kampen in Oslo, the police confirm.
– Before half past three today, the police received a report of an explosion or at least a bang at Brinken at Kampen in Oslo. All emergency services responded. When we arrive, we find that there has been a small explosion or detonation of something we don’t quite know what it is, but which is described as limited, says police task leader Thomas Broberg to the press at the scene.
No damage to persons or buildings has been reported.
Safe to travel in the area
According to Broberg, everything indicates that the explosion took place on ground level outside a rise. He will not comment on what it is that has exploded, but it is described as something with little damage potential.
He emphasizes that the police consider it safe to travel in the area.
A search has been made for the person or persons who may have caused the explosion – without finding anything. The police currently have no suspects, says Broberg. The police are now in an investigative phase and are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene.
Drone and helicopter
All emergency services rushed to Kampen on Tuesday afternoon after the report of an explosion, in addition to personnel with special skills to handle any explosives.
– It is clear that it is unfortunate. From what we have been told, there is a strong impact, and of course it creates discomfort in the area, says Broberg.
NTB’s reporter at the scene reported earlier on Tuesday that the police were on the scene with both a drone and a helicopter, and that the police were armed.
Witnesses at the scene speak Oslo newspaper that they should have seen a car drive away from the scene at high speed.
