These are the “Legion Freedom for Russia” and the “Siberian Battalion” who made this information via social media. They are therefore made up of Russians who are hostile to the regime. The information might not initially be verified.
The Freedom Legion for Russia militia said on Telegram that its fighters had destroyed an armored Russian military vehicle in the town of Tyotkino in the Kursk region. Kursk Governor Roman Starovoit confirmed the attack and reported one person slightly injured, but denied any “breakthrough” by the attackers.
Other official bodies in Russia might not initially be reached for comment. A spokesman for Ukrainian military intelligence said in Ukrainian media that the groups carried out the operation on Russian territory independently of Ukraine. A third group is also involved, the “Russian Volunteer Corps”.
The “Legion Freedom for Russia” and the “Russian Volunteer Corps” have already taken responsibility for other, previous cross-border operations.
