While the local Executive squeezes its resources to fight this battle once morest narcoterrorism, the United States announced collaboration with the Latin American country by sending the head of the Southern Command, General Laura Richardson, and other senior anti-narcotics and diplomatic officials, to examine and plan together with Noboa a strategy that is effective in this context.

Thus, “in the coming weeks” this delegation will arrive in the country to “explore with their Ecuadorian counterparts ways in which we can work together more effectively to confront the threat posed by transnational criminal organizations.” In addition, they announced that intelligence sharing and cooperation will be increased to combat malicious cyber activity, and prison reforms will be studied.

Regarding the latter, this Friday, Noboa unveiled the plans for the two prisons he plans to build, very similar to those already operational in Mexico and El Salvador, which made it possible to combat the gang war. The idea is to locate them in the Amazonian province of Pastaza and in the coastal province of Santa Elena, and they will have a capacity for 736 inmates.

As in Nayib Bukele’s prisons, these spaces will have cell phone and satellite signal inhibitors, electronic systems with cutting-edge technology, digital and analog access control, triple perimeter security and electrical self-generation.
