Tanner: It’s going up and forward
Vienna (OTS) – The fourth AW169 helicopter with the identification 5M-ID landed in Aigen/Ennstal; 32 more to follow. Two more helicopters will land in Austria this year.
The army has bought 36 AW169 Lion helicopters in a government-to-government deal from the Italian army. These helicopters replace the Alouette3, which has been flown by the Army since 1967, and the OH-58, which has been in service since 1976. Currently 10 pilots are already trained on the new helicopter; the training takes place in Italy and Austria.
The 36 helicopters will be in Austria until 2027 and will then be stationed in Aigen/Ennstal and in Langenlebarn, Lower Austria.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “Our mission is forward and the landing of the fourth helicopter shows that we are moving forward. The army is becoming modern: in the air as well as on land.
