In Sudan, Africa, where only 15 coups have taken place since the government was established, armed conflict within the military has erupted this time.

I’m worried that it might escalate into a civil war as external forces intervene in the struggle for leadership.

Reporter Ryu Jae-bok reports.

Black smoke billows from missiles fired from low-flying fighter jets.

Sudanese government forces attacked an airfield in the capital, Khartoum.

After informing citizens to evacuate, government forces launched a massive fighter jet attack.

The armed conflict originated from the discord between the military’s powerful men.

General Burhan, who leads the government forces, and General Dagalo, the rapid support force, who have been designated as rebels.

The two men who had worked together to overthrow dictator President al-Bashir turned their backs on after a successful coup.

Hundreds of casualties have already occurred as fighting has spread out of the capital and spread across the country for days.

Because of its geopolitical importance and rich mineral resources, the West and Russia have had their eyes on Sudan.

Experts have evaluated this conflict as a proxy war by external forces.

This is another reason why the international community unanimously called for dialogue, but it is difficult to resolve.

The possibility of armed conflict between military forces escalating into civil war and large-scale bloodshed is growing.
