Russian judoka Arman Adamyan won the world championship in the weight category up to 100 kg. Competitions are held in the city of Doha. In the final match, Adamyan defeated the Czech athlete Lukasz Krpalek. The third places in the competition were taken by Azerbaijani judoka Zelim Kotsoev and Israeli athlete Peter Palchik.
Adamyan’s victory was the first gold for the Russian team at the World Championships in Doha. On May 13, awards will be drawn in the categories over 78 kg for women and over 100 kg for men.
26-year-old Arman Adamyan in 2019 became the European champion and the winner of the European Games at the combined tournament in Minsk. In November 2020, he became the silver medalist of the European Championship in Prague. In addition, Adamyan won four Grand Prix tournaments.
The World Judo Championship will end on May 14th. The Executive Committee of the International Judo Federation allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the tournament in a neutral status. The Ukrainian national team is boycotting the championship because of this. Its participants are fighting for tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
