Arlex Méndez dominated the 2024 Barcelona City Classic

Cyclist Arlex Méndez dominated the 2024 edition of the Barcelona City Classic, which took place last Sunday in the capital of the state of Anzoátegui.

Méndez, an athlete belonging to the Alicanto Consulting Group-Lotería del Táchira-Osorio Group team, took a time of one hour, 52 minutes and 43 seconds (01:52:43) to complete a circuit of 80 kilometers (km), located on Costanera Avenue.

The U23 athlete, who completed 20 laps on the 4km-long capital circuit, was followed by Rudy Rodríguez (Team La Primogénita-Cumaná). Reinaldo “Cunaguaro” Arocha (Bandes La Guaira) completed the podium.

Other competitors highlighted

After the main trio, Airton Cabral (Team La Primogénita-Cumaná), Anderson Ordaz (Jen Style–Bandes La Guaira) and Alan López (Alicanto Consulting Group-Lotería del Táchira -Osorio Group) arrived, occupying the fourth, fifth and sixth places, respectively.

256 cyclists participated in the international competition, reported Miguel Gorrín, sports director of the Simón Bolívar Municipality.

Competitors from La Guaira, the Capital District, Sucre, Monagas, Guárico, Delta Amacuro, Táchira and Nueva Esparta, as well as the Pegasus club from Brazil, attended the event.

More winners

In the women’s category, the award went to Arline Rojas (Pedal Express), while in the men’s Master B category, Marcel López (Team La Roca Monagas) won.

José Fernández, head of press for the Venezuelan Cycling Federation (FVC), said that the best in the Master C category was Massimo D Ambrosio (Guárico). In Master D the highest honour went to Manuel González (Auto Repuestos Anaco-Services).

“We would like to thank the Mayor of Bolívar, Sugey Herrera, as well as Miguel Gorrin, director of sports in Barcelona, ​​for the valuable teamwork that was put together to carry out a test that was a complete success,” said Fernández.
