ALGIERS- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met, on Thursday, with the heads of the Russian Geological Research Institute “Karpinski” and the Petroleum and Mining Exploration and Prospecting Company ” GEOTECH”, with whom he discussed the opportunities for cooperation in the mining field, indicates a press release from the ministry.
The interviews took place by videoconference, in the presence of executives from the ministry and officials from the mining group SONAREM, the National Agency for Mining Activities (ANAM) and the Geological Service Agency of Algeria (ASGA), specifies the press release.
This meeting focused on ways of cooperation in the field of mining exploration, prospecting, exploitation and training, the formulas available in this context to Algerian companies in the sector and their Russian counterparts, and the means to take advantage of experiences and exchange expertise, according to the same source.
On this occasion, the Russian side made a presentation on the activities of the two companies in their areas of expertise (mineral exploration and geological mapping) and under their cooperation with major Russian and foreign oil and mining companies.
The two parties discussed the possibility of creating bilateral partnerships with a view to materializing prospecting and exploration projects for metals, in particular precious metals and rare earths, which today represent a vital and strategic area.
Mr. Arkab and his Russian interlocutors insisted on “the conclusion of agreements of understanding for the realization of mutually beneficial concrete projects”, concludes the press release.
