Colombo: The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has been dissolved following the team’s poor performance in the ODI World Cup. Former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga has been appointed as the chairman of the interim governing body.
The action comes following India suffered a heavy defeat by 302 runs in the World Cup. Shammi Silva was the chairman of the cricket board. Sports Minister Roshan Ranasingha announced that the committee chaired by Arjuna Ranatunga will be in charge from Monday.
Ranatunga, who also captained Sri Lanka to the World Cup in 1996, was the chairman of the Cricket Board in 2008-08. He was the former Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation in the Government of Lanka.
Ranatunga criticized the ICC during the recent Asia Cup. The ICC has also been accused of being a toothless organization that cannot protect international cricket and the interests of players. Ranatunga was angered by the reserve day given only for the India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup.
