The Chinese manufacturer Comac states that Comac ARJ21 has carried more than 10 million passengers. Comac also delivered the first two cargo versions of this model last month.
An ARJ21, a domestically developed Chinese airliner, welcomed the 10 millionth passenger for this model on Friday. The passenger was on board a China Southern Airlines flight from Guangzhou to Jieyang, according to Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC), the developer of the ARJ21. Since the airliner entered service commercial in June 2016, 117 aircraft have been delivered and are operated on more than 400 air routes in China and beyond, according to Comac. The ARJ21 is now estimated to make 1,800 weekly flights around China and Indonesia.
Last month, the first two cargo planes converted from ARJ21 passenger aircraft have been delivered, a significant milestone in the airliner’s conversion program. The converted aircraft has a maximum payload of 10 tonnes and a flight range of 2,778 kilometers. It is mainly intended for the transportation of goods, mail and express shipments on national roads and short-distance international routes, according to COMAC.
The cargo conversion program ARJ21 was officially launched in May 2020. After going through initial and detailed design phases, as well as conversion, the aircraft received its airworthiness approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China in January 2023. China is Asia’s largest air cargo market, with its booming e-commerce and express delivery sectors driving increased demand for freight transportation.
