PHOENIX — Alek Thomas hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. had a game-tying, two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied for a 5-game victory Sunday. 4 to the San Diego Padres.

The D-backs took two of three against the Padres. Both teams are looking to win one of the wild cards in the National League. Arizona again hit .500 (49-49), while San Diego fell to 56-62.

The Padres have lost six of seven games.

The Diamondbacks trailed 4-2 in the seventh, but with the count complete Gurriel connected over the wall in left field off Nick Martinez. It was his first home run as a pinch hitter.

In the eighth, Christian Walker singled with one out and advanced to third on another single by Gabriel Moreno. Thomas hit a groundout single to right that Trent Grisham caught, but was unable to stop Walker’s score.

Paul Sewald pitched the ninth for his second save in two days.

For the Padres, the Dominicans Fernando Tatis Jr. 4-1 with a run scored and an RBI, Juan Soto 5-0, Gary Sánchez 4-1.

For the Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Ketel Marte 4-1 with an RBI, Geraldo Perdomo 3-2 with a run scored and an RBI. The Venezuelans Gabriel Moreno from 1-1, José Herrera from 2-1. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2-1 with one run scored and two RBIs.
