PHOENIX (AP) — Pavin Smith hit a go-ahead, three-run homer, Drey Jameson pitched impressive 2/3 innings of relief in his return to the big leagues and the Arizona Diamondbacks rallied to win 7-7 on Monday night. 5 to the Colorado Rockies.
The Diamondbacks rallied from a 4-0 deficit with five runs in the second inning that Smith closed out with his home run to right field. Jake McCarthy hit a two-run single to top off the inning.
Colorado’s Ryan McMahon homered for the fourth straight game, a 445-foot drive over the center-field wall to make it 1-0. McMahon had four hits and finished a double shy of the cycle.
The Rockies scored three more runs in the second on Ezequiel Tovar’s two-run double and McMahon’s RBI single.
But the D-backs hammered Rockies starter Karl Kauffman (0-3), who was playing in just his third major league game. The right-hander allowed seven runs on nine hits, walking two in four innings, with just one strikeout.
