ArianeGroup takes a decisive step in the race for reusable launchers

As Ariane 5 prepares to make its final journey on July 4, ArianeGroup tested a full reusable space launcher stage for the first time on Friday June 22. The Prometheus reusable engine, placed in the Themis reusable stage demonstrator, was successfully ignited for twelve seconds at the Vernon site in Eure. Good news for Europe, which is trying to catch up with SpaceX’s considerable lead in this technology. “The complete test of the Prometheus engine, carried out directly on the Themis reusable stage demonstrator, was eagerly awaited because it opens a promising way to prepare the future family of European launchers”, explains Martin Sion, new Executive Chairman of the group, in A press release.
