Cynthia Erivo is more than okay with physical affection. In fact, she embraces it. The Wicked star told talk show host Drew Barrymore about her fondness for non-romantic touch, a view shared by several of her decorated friends.

“I’m so touchy!” Erivo shared with Barrymore on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, adding that it’s “not in a weird way,” laughing as she elaborated on how comfortable she feels displaying her affection openly. Erivo explained, “I have a lot of friends in the industry. Ariana Grande is really touchy, like we hold hands all the time.”
“If it’s not like, connected, like, ‘What’s wrong? What’s happening? Where are you?’” Erivo said.
Normalizing Physical Connection
Erivo’s perspective comes as a relief to Barrymore, who often takes the brunt of playful criticism online for her own expressive connection style. “I think we get a bit afraid of physical touch,” Erivosaid. “I think we assume that physical connection can only be romantic.”
