Edakkara (Malappuram) ∙ The incident where the teacher was found dead in Punnapuzha, Karimpuzha, has been ruled a murder by the police. The death of Babu, a teacher of Munderi Govt. School and a native of Karulai Cherupulli, proved to be a murder. In connection with the incident, Kambi Biju alias Biju (54), a native of Udirakulam, and his girlfriend Lata (37), a native of Moothedam Erayamthangi Colony, were arrested by the police. The police statement regarding the incident is as follows:
The trio met a month ago while buying liquor from Edakkara Liquor Shop. On September 7, the trio got drunk at Lata’s house, which lives under the Edakkara wind bridge. Then the trio got into an argument over the obscene video they saw on their mobile phone. Meanwhile, Biju hit Babu on the head with a wooden stick in his hand.
Both of them dragged Babu, who was confused due to the impact of the blow, and pushed him into the torrent of Punnapuzha. Meanwhile, they stole Babu’s mobile phone, wallet containing money and glasses. Six days later on September 13, Babu’s body was found near the Nilambur Karimpuzha bridge, regarding 10 km from the incident site. Then Edakkara police registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation.
Babu’s body was found in Punnapuzha while the Pookottumpadam police were investigating the case filed by his sister on September 8 stating that Babu was missing. On the basis of information that the death was suspicious, the Edakkara police conducted a scientific investigation on the instructions of the Nilambur DySP. The cyber investigation focused on Babu’s mobile phone pointed to the accused. The case, which would have ended in unnatural drowning, was found to be murder by the Edakkara police through a thorough scientific investigation.
