After several weeks of rumors regarding the future of Argentine Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos, New York City FC, current MLS champion, announced this Monday that their top scorer this season will go to LaLiga in Spain to join Girona on loan until 2023.
After four seasons with New York City, the forward born in Mendoza, Argentina, will make the big leap to European football already one of the best leagues in the world such as the Spanish one.
Castellanos, who is the leading scorer of the current MLS season with 13 goalsand who also won the Golden Boot last year following scoring 18 goals, said goodbye to the American team that he considers his “family”.
“I came to New York four years ago and this experience was everything I wanted.. Here I grew up and took my game to another level. I always said that the people of this club are like my family, ”said the 23-year-old player in statements published by New York City in a statement.
“I am very proud to have won the Golden Boot last year and to have won the first MLS for our fans”, said the player who scored his farewell goal this weekend in his team’s victory over Inter Miami.
Castellanos pauses his cycle in the MLS following scoring 53 points and dished out 19 assists in a total of 116 games with NYCFC.
The Argentine also takes the recognition of being the second club player to score more than 50 goals and as the only one who managed a poker of goals, in his team’s 6-0 once morest Real Salt Lake.
