Throughout its history, Millonarios has always been a club where Argentines have stood out to a greater or lesser extent. More than 100 players from that country have passed through the club and the last to join this list has been Santiago Giordana.
The forward who comes from Deportivo Garcilaso becomes the most recent Argentine at the club. In fact, since 2018 there has not been a player of that nationality despite the Argentine tradition of playing for Millonarios.
Given this, we remember the most important gaucho footballers who have passed through the team:
Alfredo Castillo
The footballer who played between 1948 and 1957 was one of the club’s most important Argentines as he currently remains the top scorer in the history of the Albiazul with 133 goals.
Alfredo Di Stefano
Perhaps one of the best players to ever wear the blue jacket. Between 1949 and 1952 he played for Millonarios and scored 96 goals. His high level in Colombia made Real Madrid sign him.
Adolfo Pedernera
He was one of the footballers who also left Argentina due to the strike and there he headed to Millonarios where he formed the ‘Ballet Azul’
Nestor ‘Pipo’ Rossi
The footballer is one of the foreign players with the most titles in Millonarios. Rossi is remembered for playing and directing that victory once morest Real Madrid in 1952.
Juan Gilberto Funes
The Argentine striker shone for Millonarios between 1984 and 1986 where he scored 45 goals. He died in 1992 from prosthetic endocarditis.
Sergio Goycoechea
The world runner-up with Argentina in 1990 was one of the best goalkeepers to have passed through Millonarios. He was renowned for his ability to save penalties.
Gabriel Fernandez
By numbers, the midfielder is the best Argentine player in Millonarios in this century. His left foot was a guarantee of a free kick goal. Fernández played 54 games and scored 24 goals between 2005 and 2006.
Other prominent Argentinians who went through Millionarios are: Amadeo Carrizo, Julio Cozzi, Miguel Angel Converti, Juan Jose Irigoyen, Alberto Pedro Vivalda, Mario Vanemerak, Oscar Juarez, Ricardo Lunari among others.
