Argentine Soccer Association’s Expansion Plan in the US: New Training Center and Market Strategy

As part of its global expansion strategy, the Argentine Soccer Association (AFA) officially presented its plans and projects for the US market. The event took place in Miami, with the aim of exhibiting the project that began in 2022. The landing in the United States represents a new stage of projection following years of brand development in Asia and the Middle East.

With the presence of the head of the Association, Claudio Tapia, and the coach of the national team, Lionel Scaloni, the authorities officially presented the new Training Center in the city in the state of Florida. The meeting was held in Hialeah, where the highest authority of Argentine soccer has established plans and projects for its expansion in the North American market, as part of its global expansion strategy, since the AFA has been working with Mayor Esteban Bovo, for the creation of a training center for the national teams and a sports city.

The AFA was awarded a 30-year land grant approved by the City of North Bay Village. The main idea is to build two professional fields, six for Soccer 5, gyms and work spaces for the academy. All this is added to the offices in the Wynwood municipality of 1,500 general square meters distributed on a single floor, on an 8th floor. “The main objective of Claudio Tapia is to be able to have stable and work places thinking regarding the nearby tournaments of the Senior Selection in 2024 (Copa América) and 2026 (World Cup)”, he detailed in the statement published by the institution.

Scaloni himself explained the keys to this advance of national soccer on North American soil: “The expansion is at an ideal time because a Copa América (2024) is coming here, a World Cup (2026). And for the AFA to be here is incredible. There are so many Latinos, Argentinians that one feels at home and the arrival of ‘Leo’ (Messi) only makes all that worse. Hopefully it will not only be the opening for the AFA but also for many Argentine soccer players who can come to play in the United States”. The coach was the first to speak, in an exclusive lecture for coaches, assistants and sports directors with Juan Pablo Varsky as moderator of the event, and then in a press conference.

Tapia, who before immersing himself in the new home of the Albiceleste in the United States, reviewed experiences of the World Cup and his management, which began in 2017, he said. “The human thing has as much value as the sporty thing and one has to use it to drive”, he offered one of the keys to his way of governing. “We achieved much more before being world champions than today,” he described the foundations of the era that promises more glory.

After the two dissertations, it was time to present the project. To do this, Scaloni and Tapia returned to the stage together with Esteban Bovo, mayor of Hialeah, to detail their achievements. “Messi’s arrival in the United States generated many ideas,” Tapia said.

The AFA, which already has more than 15 regional sponsorships, its own social networks for each market, and a high volume of ecommerce sales that place it as a leader in these regions, will seek to consolidate its position in the US market.

La Albiceleste hopes to revalidate their titles in the northern country. Next year he will defend the Copa América crown he won in Brazil, and in 2026 he will seek to revive the feat carried out in the Gulf country, where he became world champion.
