Argentine prosecutor’s office clarified that Liam Payne’s toxicological studies have not yet been concluded

The prosecutor investigating the death of Liam PayneAndrés Madrea, received the musician’s father, Geoff Payne, to convey the details of the investigation, the Prosecutor’s Office reported in a statement published on Tuesday, October 22.

The head of the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office 14 informed the father of the British musician that “the toxicological and histopathological studies complementary to the autopsy have not yet been concluded,” the results of which are necessary to define the details of the delivery of the body.

The prosecutor also let him know that he is not aware to date of other studies or laboratory analyzes and did not disclose any type of specific technical report outside of the investigation and the judicial process corresponding to the case.

The statement from the Prosecutor’s Office was released after the celebrity news website TMZ revealed that there were several substances in Payne’s system when he died, including ecstasy, crack cocaine, ketamine and a drug mixture known as “pink cocaine.”

According to TMZ, which cited police sources in Argentina, toxicology tests also revealed that there was “crystal” in Payne’s blood, the Argentine version of methamphetamine.

When asked by EFE, the prosecutor did not confirm this information and preferred to “prioritize confidentiality and respect for the victim’s family” to “avoid any contamination” of the case.

“The investigation is in full development,” he added, while in the statement he added that the preservation of the privacy of the family” of the deceased musician is “a priority.”

Actions of the Prosecutor’s Office investigating the case

On Monday, October 21, Madrea received Geoff Payne, who expressed to the prosecutor his desire for what happened to be investigated and known, after expressing his willingness to testify about everything he knows about his son’s life to help the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Office commented that expert reports are being carried out on cell phones, computers, photographs and videos from security cameras that require a longer analysis time.

He added that numerous testimonial statements were taken to reconstruct the last hours of the victim’s life and the scene of the events, and in fact that process continues with hotel workers, acquaintances, technicians, doctors and other people related to Payne.

Based on the Argentine Victims Law, the prosecutor ordered that Geoff Payne have police accompaniment until the judicial procedures are completed given his state of shock over the death of his son.

Death of Liam Payne

The former member of One Direction fell from the balcony of the room where he was staying at the Casa Sur hotel, in the capital’s Palermo neighborhood, at 5:07 pm on October 16 and died instantly.

The preliminary autopsy report concluded that the cause of death was “polytrauma and internal and external bleeding.” The Prosecutor’s Office presumed that “the musician was alone when the fall occurred and was going through some type of outbreak resulting from substance abuse.”

He also reported that substances were found in the room that would prove “a previous situation of alcohol and narcotic consumption.”
