Argentine press reveals that the Foreign Ministry apologized to Ambassador Bielsa for leaked audios | National

The Argentine press revealed that the Secretary General of Foreign Policy of Chile, Alex Wetzig, personally apologized to the Argentine ambassador in Chile, Rafael Bielsa, for the audio in which he was described as a “huevón”.

This Friday night, the Argentine press published that the Foreign Ministry apologized to the Argentine ambassador in Chile, Rafael Bielsaafter audios were leaked where Chilean diplomacy referred to him in harsh terms.

According to the newspaper Clarion of Argentina, the Secretary General of Foreign Policy, Alex Wetzig, personally apologized to Bielsa, for the audio where they describe the ambassador who has starred in different controversies as a “huevón”.

Bielsa was appointed in December 2019 as the new ambassador of Argentina in Chile by the government of Alberto Fernández, since then he has been controversial, such as in December 2021 when he described former presidential candidate José Antonio Kast as “Pinochetista” and “anti-Argentine”.

He was also upset when the Government of Sebastián Piñera approved a continental platform in Tierra del Fuego that overlapped with that of Argentina, something that has not yet been settled between the two countries.

Bielsa’s latest controversy: Dominga

His last controversy was over the rejection of the Dominga mining project by the Council of Ministers, because it could allow the construction of a tunnel bound for the Argentine city of San Juan with an investment of US$1.5 billion.

Bielsa was upset by this situation after appearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, where he criticized Dominga’s rejection in harsh terms.

“This undertaking was one of the alternatives that Agua Negra had as a port. That port will no longer be an alternative (…) It would be great for us if they notified us, nothing more than that, call the ambassador, this is going to happen today. Since it has an impact on bilateral relations, we wanted you to be informed,” said the diplomat.

For this sentence, Bielsa was summoned by the Chilean Foreign Ministry and within the framework of that situation, the leaked conversation took place this week, where Minister Antonia Urrejola participated, the aforementioned Secretary Wetzig; Director of Planning, Andrés Villar and the Chief of Staff, Carola Muñoz.

Despite the controversy, both President Gabriel Boric and his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernández, have downplayed the situation and have declared that it has no relevance in the relationship between the two countries.
