Beijing.-Cristina Fernández de Kirchner said today in China that the “strategic partnership” established between her country and the Asian giant “is not a policy of this government, of this political space,” but rather “a public policy of the State of the Argentine Republic.”
He made this statement when speaking to executives of the country’s 30 leading companies at the start of his official visit to China, according to state news agency Télam.
There, Cristina said she was “very impressed to be not only in the largest economy in the world, but also in front of the largest companies and banks in the world,” after highlighting the “knowledge” that local CEOs have about the “possibility of doing business” in Argentina.
He stressed that “this strategic alliance” with China was “defined by former President Néstor Kirchner” and that his administration decided to “deepen it as a comprehensive strategic alliance.”
The president also stressed that “politics always prevails over the economy,” although she clarified that she was “not” referring to “political parties, but to a world that moves based on geopolitical issues and not just on the market.”
“That is why other actors have appeared at the international level and China is a main actor, just as Argentina is also important geopolitically, not only because of its economic wealth and human resources, but also because it is free of conflicts,” he said.
In another part of his speech to the businessmen, he indicated that “we are a country with very special characteristics as a food producer and extremely competitive in grain production,” before highlighting the advances in the “railway industry.”
Cristina also highlighted the agreement signed a few days ago between YPF and the Chinese state oil company Sinopec to develop conventional and unconventional oil and gas projects and the importance of continuing to advance in nuclear energy.
Regarding YPF, he recalled that the expropriation “was not a capricious decision of the Government,” but rather was due to the “scandalous fall in production and reserves.”
The President also considered that the progress made in recent times, together with the Vaca Muerta deposit, “make Argentina in the medium term a country that will be able to be self-sufficient” and stressed that “we are also very competitive in nuclear energy, as well as leaders in the peaceful use of this energy.”
“We are also very competitive in the area of uranium enrichment and satellite construction,” Cristina added.
