Argentine president began official visit to China

Beijing.-Cristina Fernández de Kirchner affirmed today in China that the “strategic partnership” established between her country and the Asian giant “is not a policy of this government, of this political space,” but rather “a public policy of the State in the Argentine Republic.”

This was stated when speaking to managers of the country’s 30 leading companies, at the beginning of his official visit to China, reports the state agency Télam.

There, Cristina said she was “very impressed to be not only in the largest economy in the world, but also in front of the largest companies and banks in the world,” following highlighting the “knowledge” that local CEOs have regarding the “possibility of business” in Argentina.

He stressed that “this strategic alliance” with China was “defined by former President Néstor Kirchner” and that his administration decided to “deepen it as a comprehensive strategic alliance.”

Likewise, the president stressed that “politics is always prevailing over the economy,” although she clarified that “not” refers to “political parties, but to a world that moves based on geopolitical issues and not just market issues.” .

“That is why other actors appeared at the international level and China is a main actor just as Argentina is also important geopolitically, not only for its economic wealth and human resources, but for being free of conflict,” he said.

In another part of his speech to the businessmen, he indicated that “we are a country with very special characteristics as a food producer and extremely competitive in grain production,” before highlighting the advances in the “railway industry.”

Cristina also highlighted the agreement signed days ago between YPF and the Chinese state oil company Sinopec in order to develop conventional and unconventional oil and gas projects and the importance of continuing to advance in nuclear energy.

Regarding YPF, he recalled that the expropriation “was not a capricious decision by the Government,” but rather occurred due to the “scandalous drop in production and reserves.”

Likewise, the President considered that the advances obtained in recent times, added to the Vaca Muerta field, “turn Argentina into a country that will be self-sufficient in the medium term”; and she stressed that “we are also very competitive in nuclear energy, as well as leaders in the peaceful use of that energy.”

“We are also very competitive in terms of uranium enrichment and in the construction of satellites,” Cristina added.
