Argentine justice suspends labor reforms promoted by Milei

The Argentine president has indicated that if his initiative is rejected by Parliament, he will call a popular consultation, with the aim of demonstrating to the legislative branch the broad support that his project has.

The National Chamber of Labor of Argentina issued this Wednesday a precautionary measure that suspends the application of the section dedicated to labor reforms in the bill promoted by President Javier Milei.

This is chapter 4 of the regulations contained in the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) 70/2023, the decision was made by judges María González and Alejandro Sudera, in response to the appeal promoted by the General Confederation of Labor, who catalogs Milei’s measures as neoliberal.

“A precautionary measure is issued suspending the applicability of the provisions of Title IV Work of the Decree of Necessity and Urgency No. 70/23 until a final ruling is issued on the substantive issue raised in these proceedings,” reads the resolution of the National Chamber of Labor.

“It is a public and well-known fact that workers are a socially vulnerable sector and that rights of a food nature are at stake – per se or through its derivatives -, I have no doubt that serious and objectively urgent circumstances exist. that justify the issuance of a precautionary measure,” maintains the ruling of the judicial body.

Despite the fact that there are protests and there is already the first judicial obstacle, the Argentine president has indicated that if his initiative is rejected by Parliament, it will call a popular consultation, with the aim of demonstrating to the legislative branch the broad support that your project has.
