Lollapalooza, one of the world’s most iconic music festivals, kicked off its highly anticipated 2023 edition, drawing more than 400,000 music fans to its historic venue, Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois.

Over four dates, Lollapalooza brings together more than 170 artists in an eclectic mix of genres, captivating performances and a celebration of art, marking its 30th time and reaffirming its reputation as a world-class cultural event once once more.

But this edition has a special seasoning. Among the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Lana del Rey and the Colombian Karol G, the voices of Usted Señalemelo, an Argentine indie rock band from Mendoza, Argentina, stand out.

In Chicago it has rained since 10 in the morning, but if it is said that the rain is a good omen for a newly married couple, the weather on this date offers the people of Mendoza a more than promising future. When the local clock marked one in the followingnoon, Juan Mango Saieg, the voice of the band, began the show with a clear nod to the country and proudly threw two words that mean everything to Argentine rock to those present: “Thank you totals”.

After hearing You Point It Out For The First Time, Charlie Robling, a 23-year-old from Chicago, was moved and said, “I’m so glad I had the opportunity to see a show with Argentines,” and his enthusiasm went much further: “It was my favorite band of the festival”.

Charlie Robling, a native of Chicago and a fan of music in Spanish.

Among the pilots who offered shelter from the incessant rain, there was no lack of Argentine flags, nor the famous Cordoba drink to quench thirst. And as usual, at the end of the last song “One more and we don’t fuck around anymore” was heard. The music had ended. The story was already written.

The Argentine band that made history

The group is made up of vocalist and keyboardist Juan Mango Saieg, guitarist Gabriel Cocó Orozco, and drummer Lucca Beguerie Petrich, who met at school back in 2008. Since its inception, You Signal It to Me has made it clear that its goal was to offer something different to the public, moving away from the prevailing trends and exploring a musical fusion that encompasses indie rock, pop and psychedelic overtones.

In 2017, the men from Mendoza shared the scene of Lollapalooza Argentina with nothing more and nothing less than Metallica and The Strokes. Now, the band undertook a tour that first took them across the country, then through Latin America and currently finds them on a tour of the United States, with the last stop in Chicago.

A big farewell, before touching Argentine soil once more. Here they have more dates on the horizon, with the obligatory stops in Córdoba, Rosario and La Plata. To culminate the year, nothing more and nothing less than in the iconic Luna Park scenario of Buenos Aires, where they will present their latest album Tripolar on October 25, with an innovative 360° show format.

I followed the Lollapalooza Chicago 2023 agenda, which is available to view from any corner of the world through the Hulu platform.
