Two Argentine dancers won the World Tango Championship in the Argentine capital, the Buenos Aires government announced.
Organizers said more than 20,000 people attended music and dance performances during the competition, with a final showdown on stage in front of the historic Obelisk of Buenos Aires in the heart of the Argentine capital.
In the stage dance category, which featured spectacular acrobatics, Constanza Vito and partner Riccardo Estrada of Bergameno beat 19 other duos to take the title.
Forty couples competed for the title in the traditional category or the “Salon Dance” category, performing the tango that originated in Buenos Aires, and was crowned in this category by Cynthia Palacios and Sebastian Bolivar from Cipolite.
The world championships, which were held from 6 to 18 September, were attended by 560 duos from 30 countries, including the United States, France, Russia, Japan and the Philippines.
