The Argentine president, Javier Milei, demanded this Monday the release of the hostages held by Hamas, one year after the armed group’s attack on Israeli territory.
“Our heart is captive in Gaza,” Milei wrote in Hebrew on his X account, where he added the phrase “Bring them home” in English.
The foreign policy of the Milei government is aligned with Israel, while the Argentine president, although he is of Christian origin, embraces the Jewish religion.
Nine of the hostages still held by Hamas are Argentine citizens, according to local sources.
Words
“One year after the cowardly terrorist attack against the people of Israel, we do not forget, we do not forgive and we demand the release of all the hostages,” added a message from the X account of the Casa Rosada, headquarters of the Executive.
Hamas attacked Israeli territory on October 7, 2023, when it killed 1,200 Israelis and kidnapped another 251, triggering an intense Israeli offensive against Gaza that left nearly 42,000 dead, according to Palestinian sources.
Twelve months after the largest attack against Israel since the creation of its State, 97 – plus four previously kidnapped – remain in the hands of the Islamist organization, of which thirty of them are dead, according to Israel, while its troops continue attacking the enclave.
Talks
The negotiations for a truce in a Strip, entrenched since last August, have taken a backseat with the beginning of the Israeli invasion in southern Lebanon and with the once again open confrontation with Iran, against whom Israel is now preparing a retaliatory response.
“A year later, the request remains the same: release the 101 hostages,” said the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, on her X account.

Analysis: Javier Milei’s Bold MoveAgainst Hamas
In a recent development, Argentine President Javier Milei has made headlines by demanding the release of Argentine citizens held hostage by Hamas. This move comes after Milei’s administration took a significant step in designating Hamas as a terrorist organization, aligning itself with the United States and other Western nations.
According to reports, Argentina became the first Latin American state to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization, with President Milei announcing the decision on July 12, 2024 [1]. This move not only symbolizes Argentina’s support for Israel but also freezes Hamas’ financial assets in the country [3].
As a president, Milei has consistently expressed his unwavering support for Israel, particularly in its conflict with Hamas. In fact, he has been quoted as saying that his administration’s support for Israel is “incondizionato” or unconditional [2]. This stance is reflective of the president’s commitment to combating terrorism and promoting regional stability.
By demanding the release of Argentine citizens held hostage by Hamas, President Milei is taking a bold step in asserting his country’s position on the matter. This move is likely to put pressure on Hamas to negotiate the release of the hostages, while also demonstrating Argentina’s commitment to protecting its citizens.
President Milei’s decision to designate Hamas as a terrorist organization and demand the release of Argentine hostages is a significant development in the region. As Argentina’s president, his unwavering support for Israel and his commitment to combating terrorism are likely to have far-reaching implications for the country’s foreign policy and regional relationships.
