Argentina will send the first shipments of deforestation-free soy flour to Spain in the coming months, it was announced this Tuesday.

The announcement was made during an event held at the Argentine embassy in Madrid, with the participation of the country’s main agro-export entities, following the institutional presentation on Visec, the Argentine platform for deforestation-free soybeans and beef, which was led by of Gustavo Idígoras, president of the Chamber of the Oil Industry (Ciara) and the Center of Cereal Exporters (CEC).

As reported in a statement, “this meeting is the continuity of a work process together with the Spanish value chain and in consultation with the government of Spain.”

In addition, it was indicated that “in the coming months the first ships with deforestation-free soy flour will arrive in Spain to be able to test the systems in both countries.”

Sustainability

Likewise, it was specified that “Visec promotes environmentally responsible and economically viable soybean and bovine value chains, covering the entire territory of the country under agricultural and livestock production.”

“Result of the joint effort between the entities of producers, collectors, brokers, grinding plants, meat processing plants and exporters, together with civil society, science and the State,” the statement stressed.

He also pointed out that “both value chains face immense challenges in terms of the additional costs of implementing a monitoring, reporting and verification system such as Visec.”

However, he highlighted that “there is a commitment to position itself as a differentiated supplier of deforestation-free products, with a guarantee of traceability of origin.”

Javier Cervio, executive director of the Rosario Stock Exchange (BCR), and Gerardo Leotta, of the ABC Meat Exporters Consortium, also presented virtually.

Visec is managed by the Rosario Stock Exchange, has the support of the Land Innovation Fund and Al Invest Green of the European Union.

The system allows the country’s exporters to trace and identify deforestation-free products from other products of unknown origin, at all stages of the supply chain, and allows economic operators in Spain to trace these products until they reach the consumer.
