The neurosurgeon Andrés Muñoz Núñez, an expert at the Center for Advanced Neurology (CNA) at Calle República Argentina, 23 in Málaga, has been awarded the 21st Century National Prize for Medicine in the category of Neurosurgery. The organization has highlighted both the trajectory of Dr. Muñoz and “the optimal application of minimally invasive surgical techniques both at the cranial and spinal level”.

The neurosurgeon born in Medina Sidonia (Cádiz) has a degree in Medicine from the University of Cádiz and a doctor Cum Laude from the University of Seville. He currently stands out for his work at the Center for Advanced Neurology (CNA) in Malaga, where, thanks to the excellent results of his minimally invasive surgery, he has extended his activity to the CNA headquarters in Malaga, Seville, Huelva and Chiclana de la Frontera. .

For years, he focused his training on the study and treatment of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) disorders. The search for the most appropriate treatment for Adult Chronic Hydrocephalus, a potentially curable type of dementia, led him to carry out training stays at some of the most prestigious centers in the world such as the Vall D’Hebrón Hospital in Barcelona or the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, belonging to the University of California-Los Angeles.

Muñoz has acquired experience in the field of monitoring intracranial pressure and cerebral hydrodynamics, as well as specific training in cerebral endoscopy techniques for the treatment of different types of obstructive hydrocephalus, both in the adult and pediatric population.

Currently, he is a national reference in Neurosurgery and in recent years he has focused his career on the treatment of different ailments that affect the spine using minimally invasive surgical techniques. In this sense, he is considered an expert in the surgical treatment of spinal pathology, from degenerative spinal problems, such as disc herniation or canal stenosis, through microsurgical exeresis of spinal tumors or the management of the different types of spinal instability using transpedicular instrumentation systems.

In addition to having published numerous scientific papers related to his specialty, Dr. Muñoz Núñez stands out for his interest in the History of Medicine, in general, and Neurosurgery, in particular, carrying out different works in publications in the socio-health sector. In 2020 he published his first book ‘La Trepanación en Sevilla’, which has enjoyed wide acceptance and recognition within the academic world.

The National Medicine Awards, in their 5th edition, will be delivered on March 17 at the Hotel Palace in Madrid. Some awards that aim to distinguish professionals, clinics, hospitals and other entities related to health sciences that have become national benchmarks in their different specialties.

Thus, the Center for Advanced Neurology (CNA), through its developments and studies on minimally invasive surgery, has positioned the Andalusian Community at the head of national private healthcare in the field of neurosciences.

The Center for Advanced Neurology has more than 900 square meters at its headquarters in Seville, making it the largest outpatient neurological center in the country, and which, together with the satellite centers (CNA) in Huelva, Malaga and Chiclana de la Frontera, carry out more than 18,000 consultations per year with personalized and continuous monitoring at the service of the patient.
