Argentina recognizes Edmundo González as Venezuela’s president-elect

This Friday, August 2, the Argentine government through a message posted on its social network by the chancellor Diana Mondinorecognized Edmundo Gonzalezz Urrutia as president-elect of Venezuela.

«After several days of the official electoral records of Venezuela being published in: http://resultadosconvzla.comwe can all confirm, without a doubt, that the legitimate winner and president-elect is Edmundo Gonzalez“, wrote.

This way Argentina becomes the third nation, after Peru and the United States, to also ignore the results announced on July 28 by the National Electoral Council (CNE) in the presidential elections, in which Nicolás Maduro was declared the winner without the presentation of the electoral records. This served as a trigger for hundreds of people to take to the streets last Monday, July 29, to express their disagreement with the elections.

The electoral body gave the victory to the Chavista leader for a third six-year term, with 51% of the votes against 44% for González Urrutia, his main adversary. However, the opposition maintains that it has copies of more than 80% of the minutes and that González Urrutia obtained 67% of the votes.

It should be remembered that six of the closest collaborators of the opposition leader, María Corina Machado, were forced to seek refuge in the Argentine embassy in Caracas, after being besieged by military forces seeking to deprive them of their freedom.

Just this Thursday, August 1, after the expulsion of the Argentine diplomatic corps from Venezuela, the headquarters was placed under the custody of Brazil.
