Argentina confirms the seizure of a Mahan Air plane… and the company denies

Iranian state-run media reported today, Sunday, that the Argentine government has seized a Boeing 747 owned by Iran’s Mahan Air and leased to a state-owned Venezuelan airline at Buenos Aires airport. There was no official confirmation of the report, which was broadcast on state television and the semi-official Student News Agency.

For its part, the Argentine government confirmed the seizure of the Iranian “Mahan Air” plane in compliance with US sanctions, and confirmed the arrest of 5 Iranians from the detained plane.

This comes as some Iranian media reported that the plane, which was reported to have been detained in Argentina, today, Sunday, has nothing to do with Mahan Air.

And the media quoted the director of public relations for “Mahan” company, that the aforementioned plane is owned by Venezuela and has nothing to do with the company. And she referred to Spanish media reports that quoted the Argentine security minister that a Boeing 747 belonging to “Mahan Airlines” and leased to Venezuela, was seized by order of the United States and the passports of the five Iranian crew members were confiscated.

Iran and Venezuela have close relations. On Saturday, Iranian television reported that the two countries signed a 20-year cooperation plan.
