Argentina beats Colombia in overtime

After more than an hour of delay, the Colombian and Argentine national teams finally began the final duel in the 2024 Copa América.

The final started with a lot of energy between both teams, but neither team managed to get any clear scoring opportunities. The score is tied at 0-0 at half-time, following the first 45 minutes without extra time.

After the performance by Colombian and official artist of the 2024 Copa América, Shakira, the second half of this historic duel began.

In the 65th minute, world champion Lionel Messi officially bids farewell to this continental tournament following being withdrawn due to an injury to his right ankle. This being his last Copa América before his retirement from professional football.

Extra time in the Copa America final

After 90 minutes of regulation time, plus 4 minutes of added time, the Colombian and Argentine teams go to 30-minute overtime. After the first 15 minutes, the teams presented a more dynamic and aggressive game, however, they remain 0-0.

This Sunday’s match is historic for several reasons, including the fact that Colombia has not made it to the Copa America final since 2001. Both teams have played a total of 40 matches, with the Albiceleste leading with 20 wins.

While the Colombian team has achieved 9 wins and 11 draws, what is promised is a duel full of excitement and great expectations. With the world champion, Lionel Messi leading the Argentina team and on the other hand James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz for Colombia.
